Principals' Resources

Welcome! As a principal, you understand the value of extracurricular activities and the importance of offering academic enrichment for students outside of school hours. Academic programs like debate are opportunities to continue students' education beyond the traditional classroom setting and teach them skills that are crucial in today's society such as critical thinking, research ability and persuasive speaking. As an administrator, there are few (if any) better ways to offer students the opportunity to excel while increasing their academic performance than to have a debate program.

This page is dedicated to providing resources for principals to learn about what it means to debate coach and how to be an effective coach.

If you're new to debate and interested in learning why you should start a debate program at your school, visit our benefits of debate page.

If your school does not currently have a debate program, but you are interested in starting one, please complete Perspectives' New School Assessment to help us evaluate your needs and best provide assistance for your school.

If you're interested in receiving training and support on how to become an effective debate coach or have a teacher who is interested, Perspectives offers two training sessions on how to judge and coach LD debate during our summer and winter institutes.
