Welcome! As an educator you understand the immense value in an education that provides students with critical thinking, writing, speaking and research abilities. No matter what academic field they are applied to, these skills are crucial to a students' success. And as preparation beyond the classroom experience, these skills are requirements for success in the workplace. Watching students develop these skills is the most rewarding experience as an educator and being involved in activities that promote these skills means being involved in an activity that can change students' lives. Because debate instills all this in students so greatly, this is why so many debate coaches consider their role as a coach one of their defining roles as an educator.

This page is dedicated to providing resources for educators to learn about what it means to debate coach and how to be an effective coach.

If you're new to debate or still trying to get the grasp of it, Perspectives' Introduction to LD Debate handbooks are valuable resources to learn more about what debate is, check out our introduction to debate.

If your school does not currently have a debate program, but you are interested in starting one, please complete Perspectives' New School Assessment to help us evaluate your needs and best provide assistance for your school.

If you're interested in receiving training and support on how to become an effective debate coach or have a teacher who is interested, Perspectives offers two training sessions on how to judge and coach LD debate during our summer and winter institutes.
