Students Start the Year with Strong Finishes at Lexington
Lexington, MA and Philadelphia, PA-January 2007-Students began the new year with strong finishes at the Lexington Winter Invitational in Lexington, Massachusetts, held January 18-19, 2008. Sophomore Karlyn Gorski '05-’07 earned a bid to the Tournament of Champions, the only sophomore to do so at the tournament. At the round robin, 2007 Senior Fellow Stephanie Caravias finished 2nd overall and garnered the 3rd place speaker award. In total, an astounding 7 of the 32 students reaching elimination rounds were PDI alum.
The Lexington Invitational is one of the longest-running national level tournaments, which has historically drawn hundreds of students from across the United States. PDI Faculty Matt Scarola '07 was the 2004 Co-Champion of the Lexington Winter Invitational.
Prior to the Lexington Winter Invitational, many Perspectives students competed in the local junior varsity tournament at Franklin Towne Charter School. Subee Mathew '07 finished with an undefeated record and won the 2nd place award at this tournament.

Perspectives is a Philadelphia-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization promoting youth debate education. Students who debate dramatically increase their reading comprehension, critical thinking, and public speaking skills. In the process, debate becomes a forum to foster youth achievement and civic responsibility.
