Mayor Nutter Announces Attendance at Charitable Fall Auction

Perspectives Debate Inc., a Philadelphia non-profit, will host the 2nd Annual Fall Auction at Duane Morris LLP on Thursday, November 20, 2008 from 6:00-8:30

Philadelphia, PANovember 3, 2008—Mayor Michael A. Nutter, a proud board member of Perspectives Debate Inc. ("Perspectives"), has announced that he will attend the organization’s 2nd Annual Fall Auction. Perspectives is nonprofit founded by students at Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania, and has used debate as an educational tool to serve over 500 students in the greater-Philadelphia area, including afterschool programs in 13 Philadelphia public and charter schools.

Mayor Nutter has served on the Board of Directors of Perspectives Debate, Inc. since August 2007, when he was the Democratic Mayoral Nominee for Philadelphia. Upon his inauguration as mayor, Mayor Nutter expressed his wish to cut the city school’s drop-out rate and double the percentage of Philadelphians with bachelor degrees.

Mayor Nutter has noted that Perspectives is an organization whose mission is aligned with these goals. In supporting Perspectives, Mr. Nutter notes that "Creating opportunities for students to further develop the critical skills for academic success, enhancing their prospects for a college education and preparing them for life are very important. Your partnership with so many schools in this City is an invaluable resource. I am grateful to you for your investment in and commitment to young people and the City."

The organization is gearing up for another successful school year with a silent auction fundraiser to be held in downtown Philadelphia on November 20, 2008, at Duane Morris LLP (30 S. 17th Street, Philadelphia, PA). The auction will be held from 6:00-8:30pm. Mayor Nutter will be giving a speech in support at the event.

Tickets may be purchased in advanced through the organization’s website at www.philadebate.org.
