When will the application be available?
The application will be available by October 15th.
When and where will the Winter Debate Institute be held?
The Winter Debate Institute will be held at the University of Pennsylvania, January 10-11, 2009.
Is there financial aid?
Perspectives has arguably the most generous financial aid of any debate institute in the country. Last year, 50% of students at the Winter Debate Institute received a full scholarship. You will be able to apply for financial aid when you register.
What is the curriculum?
The Winter Debate Institute has separate tracks for novice and varsity students. Novice students will go through "LD boot camp" focusing on LD fundamentals and topic analysis, while varsity students will focus on intensive preparation, skills drills, and practice debates. Varsity students are guaranteed 3 practice debate rounds.
How do I register?
Students must complete the online registration form and submit their payment or application for financial aid by December 1. All forms are available on our website. The registration deadline is December 1. Late registrations will be accepted until December 15 on a space-available basis and incur a $25 late fee.
Is your program safe?
Yes. This is the 2nd annual Winter Debate Institute and Perspectives has run 4 summer institutes. We would be happy to refer you to parents from past programs should you have any concerns about your student's attendance.
Is your program commuter friendly?
What if I live far away? The Winter Debate Institute encourages students from across the region to attend. Based on request, we will arrange housing for a nominal fee of $50.
